Into a Night’s Echo is a Brussels-based quintet led by bassist and composer Ramon van Merkenstein, performing contemporary acoustic jazz written as a suite and played as one.
It moves like something half-remembered: layered, shifting and non-linear, like a sequence of dreams. Motifs return in altered forms, grooves evolve and dissolve, and improvisation reshapes the music from within.
At its core is a rhythm section that pulls like an undertow: between groove and trance, patient and hard to resist. Over that current, a two-horn front line follows the music’s shifting contours as they unfold.
